Robber killed in Comilla 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Comilla: A robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with Detectives near Loribag rail-gate of the district's Burichang upazila on Tuesday late night.
The deceased was identified as Mostofa, 33.
Shah Kamal Akondo, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Comilla Detective Branch, confirmed the news.
He said Abul Kalam Azad, a jeweler of Devidwar upazila, was stabbed to death by miscreants near Loribag rail-gate on February 21.
Police arrested two robbers over the incident. They gave confessional statement before a court on Tuesday afternoon, he added.
He said law enforcers went Loribag area to nab their cohorts whose names were disclosed by arrested accomplices. But sensing the presence of cops, robbers fired at them. Police also retaliated for self-defence, leaving Mostofa bullet-injured.
He was rushed to Comilla Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where attending doctors declared him dead, the SI said.
