‍Youth killed over Tk 50 of IPL match bet

Lalmonirhat Correspondent: A youth was allegedly killed over feud of Tk 50 illegally betting on a match of Indian Premier League (IPL)-2017 at Mahendranagar under sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat in Bangladesh.

The deceased was identified as Santosh Mondal, 32, son of Kali Das Chandra of Bholarchowra Kodomtola area of the upazila.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday morning (May 06), sources said.

Local sources said one Nuruzzaman, 17, locked in altercation with Santosh over Tk 50 of bet on an IPL match on Wednesday (May 03) night.  At one stage, Nuruzzaman blowed a kick at Santosh's testicle, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Ranqpur Medical College and Hospital immediately. He succumbed in the hospital on Saturday morning, two days after he was admitted there.

Moshiur Rahman, Chairman of Mahendranagar Union Parishad, confirmed the news.

He said the body is expected to be brought home on Saturday evening.

Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, said being informed several officers were sent to the spot. Legal steps would be taken after investigating into the matter.
