2 cops suspended as prisoner escapes from hospital

Bagerhat Correspondent: Two policemen were suspended after a prisoner who was undergoing treatment at Chitalmari upazila hospital in Bagerhat fled from police custody.

The policemen are - constable Abdur Rauf and Shawkat Ali.

The incident happened on Thursday night, when Tanmay Mandal, 20, who was a prisoner in a drug case, managed to escape from police custody by hitting the policemen in the hospital.

Anukul Chadra Sarkar Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chitalmari police station said that police conducted a drive in Khasherhat area on April 2. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of police, Tanmay tried to flee the scene. Later, police detained him and found 10 pieces of Yaba pills and 50 gram of weed. During the police chase, Tanmay received injury at his legs. Later, he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Bagerhat police super Pankaj Chandra Roy said police forces are conducting drive to detain the fled prisoner.
