‘No possibility of deploying army in city polls’

Staff Correspondent, Khulna: Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam said there is no possibility of deploying army in Khulna and Gazipur city corporation polls.

In reply to a query, he told this to the reporters after a training workshop for returning officers, assistant returning officers and assistant officers on the election of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Friday noon.

Rafiqul Islam said, “Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used on limited range in the election. Special security measures will be taken at important centres to hold the election in a free and fair manner.”

“Banned politicial parties will not able to participate in the polls. However, any person can individually can take part in the election. Administration has been instructed to ensure equal spaces for the election. The election will be held as the schedule announced if no instruction comes from the court,” he added.

He said, “We are now detecting risky centres. Close Circuit cameras will be set at the centres as far as possible. Alongside, officials who will be on duty at the risky centres will be given special power.”
