Drug trader killed in Mymensingh 'gunfight'

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Atharbari of Ishwarganj in Mymensingh on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Mia, 30, son of Siddik Mia.

Police said on information that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area over sharing drug money, the law enfocers conducted the drive led by Ahmed Kabir, officer-in-charge Ishwarganj Police Station.

Meanwhile, sensing presence of the police, the drug traders hurled brick chips and opened fire on them. The law enforcers also fired back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight. At one stage, the drug traders fled the scene. Later, police recovered bullet-injured Faruk Mia and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

100 pieces of Yaba pills, seven bullet cases, a sharp weapon and a mobile phone were recovered from the spot.
