Three women killed in truck-pick up collision

Gopalganj Correspondent: Three women were killed and 10 other people were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and pick up van at Gopalpur on Dhaka-Khulna highway of the district’s Kashiani upazila on Friday afternoon.

The deceased were known as Poly Begum, 35, wife of Sheikh Robiul Islam, Asma Begum, 50, wife of Jinnat Sheikh, Hasrua Begum, 65, wife of Bachchu Mollah. They all are residents of Pingoliya village of the upazila and relatives to one another.

The injured were admitted to the district general hospital.

Azizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said Sheikh Robiul bought a new pick up van. On this occasion, he along with other family members and relatives were going to Khan Jahan Ali’s shrine in Bagerhat. On their way at Gopalpur, the incident of head-on collision occurred with a truck, turning the pick up turtle and the truck entered a shop, leaving Asma and Poly killed on the spot.

Being informed, police and members of Fire Service rushed to the spot and took the injured to Gopalganj General Hospital where Hasura was declared dead, he added.
