Main accused in Sona Babu murder case dies

Staff Correspondent, Rangpur: Kamrul Islam, the main accused in the murder case of special public prosecutor Rathish Chandra Bhowmik alias Sona Babu, has died.

He died around 5.30am on Saturday at Rangpur Medical College Hospital in police custody.

Amzad Hossain, jail superintendent of Rangpur Central Jail, said Kamrul had been suffering from diabetes and heart disease.

He was later taken to the hospital after he fell sick in the early hours where doctors declared him dead, the jail superintendent said.

Sona Babu, a public prosecutor at the Special Judge’s Court in Rangpur, was killed over alleged extramarital affair between his wife Snigdha Sarkar Dipa and Kamrul on March 29.
