Man accused in 15 cases killed in ‘gunfight’

Natore Correspondent: A man accused in over 15 cases has been killed in an alleged shootout with police in Natore.

The gunfight occurred around 2.00am on Saturday at Tofakata More of Gopalpur under Lalpur upazila

The deceased has been identified as Shutter Manik alias Sumon (48), who was accused in 15 cases of murder, robbery and thievery including main accused in college boy Al Amin murder case.

Sumon was the son of Yusuf Ali in Purbatengri Sherpara area of Ishwardi upazila.


Officer-in-Charge of Lalpur Thana Nazrul Islam Juel said police arrested Manik from Baraigram on Friday.  Manik was being taken to Lalpur Thana. When they reached Tofakata intersection his associates opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight.

Police recovered bullet-hit Manik and took him to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead, he added.
