Minni released from jail

Barguna Correspondent: Aysha Siddika Minni has been released from jail, 48 days after being arrested in a case filed over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.

She was released from Barguna jail around 4:35pm on Tuesday.

Minni’s father Mojammel Hossain Kishor, some relatives received her at the jail gate.

The HC bail order reached Barguna Senior Judicial Court on Tuesday noon. Then, lawyer Mahbubul Bari Aslam filed a miscellaneous case on behalf of Minni to the court. Around 3:30pm, Judge Mohammad Sirajul Islam Gazi granted bail bond under custody of Minni’s father.

The bail bond reached Barguna District Jail around 4:00pm. Later, Minni was released around 4:30pm after completing prison process. She was released under custody of her father Mojammel Hossain Kishor.

Minni was taken home by an ambulance when their house was filed with crowds.

On Monday, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court (HC) order that granted bail to Minni in the murder case.

On Sunday, the High Court released a seven-page-long full text of its judgment that granted bail to Minni, clearing way for her release from jail.

On August 29, the High Court granted bail to Minni on the condition that she remains in her father’s custody, and does not talk to the media.

The court also said her bail would be cancelled if she violated the conditions.

On August 20, the High Court issued a ruling asking the government to explain within a week why Minni should not be granted bail in the case.
