Meghna launch collision leaves 2 dead

Two passengers were killed and several others were injured as a launch hit another in Meghna river in Barishal early Monday.

The accident took place at a place named Majherchar in Meghna river around 12:45am.

The deceased could not be identified yet.

Jhantu, counter manager of Kirtonkhola Launch Company, said Bhandaria-bound launch Farhan-9 from Dhaka hit the middle point of Dhaka-bound launch Kirtonkhola-10 coming from Barishal at Majherchar in Hizla upazila around 12:45am.

The accident left two passengers of Kirtonkhola-10 dead on the spot and several passengers of both the launches injured, he said.

It is learnt that the incident might have taken place due to dense fog.
