2 arrested over torturing schoolboy in Gaibandha

Police arrested two men from Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila on Sunday night for tying a schoolboy to a tree and torturing him on charges of theft at Dhumaitari village.

Rana Miah and Abbas Miah were arrested after the victim’s elder brother filed a case with Sundarganj Police Station against 13 people on Sunday night.

The victim’s name is Rafikul Islam, 13, son of Sirajul Islam. He is an eighth grader.

Rafikul was accused of stealing a cow of one Raja Mia, a resident of the village but the boy rejected the allegation.

Raja picked up the schoolboy from his house on Saturday night. He kept the teenager tied to a tree throughout the night and tortured him, before police rescued the boy on Sunday morning, according to Abdullahil Jaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station.

Two men were arrested following the case filed in this connection, the OC said adding that a legal action will be taken to bring the culprits to justice.
