6 killed in Khagrachari clash, probe committee formed

At least six people, including a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) member, have been killed and several others injured when a clash erupted between BGB and villagers in Khagrachhari.
The deceased were – Mafiz Mia, Sahab Mia, his two sons Ahmed Ali and Ali Akbar, and BGB member Md Shawon. Besides, Ranzu Begum, wife of Sahab Mia died of cardiac arrest after hearing death news of her two sons and husband.
Witnesses said, Ahmed Ali was loading tree trunks on a truck around 11:30am. Meanwhile, a BGB team stopped the truck and started quizzing him. Altercation took place between BGB men and locals.
At one stage, BGB opened fire aiming villagers which triggered the clash, leaving BGB member Shawon, Sahab Mia, Ahmed Ali and Ali Akbar dead on the spot. Bullet-injured Mafiz died on the way to hospital.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Protap Chandra Biswas, police super Abdul Aziz visited the spot.
The DC formed a three-member committee with Additional District Magistrate Khandakar Rezaul Karim as its head to investigate the incident.
