One killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police at Chandi in Cumilla.

The deceased was identified as Khokon, 45, a member of robber gang and accused in Cumilla Zila Parishad member Khairul Alam Sadhan murder case.

According to sources, acting on a tip off, a group of robbers were preparing to commit robbery, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area. Sensing presence of the law enforcer, the robbers opened fire on policemen, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.

At one stage, Khokon was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet injury. Later, he was taken to a hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

One pipe-gun, two cartridges and some sharp local weapons were recovered from the spot.

Two police were injured in the gunfight, police claimed.
