RMG workers block road in Savar for arrears

Blocking a road, a number of ready-made garment workers have demonstrated in Hemayetpur area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, demanding their arrears.

The workers of Rakib Fashion Limited, which is closed now, took to the streets on Sunday (April 12) morning and staged demonstrations by blocking Singair-Hemayetpur Road.

They alleged that the authorities of the factory pledged to pay their wages of the month of March on April 5, but the schedule was deferred to April 13.

Knowing the fact that they would not be paid on April 13 as well and the matter enraged them.

Later, they took to the streets to press home their demand.

However, a team of industrial police went to the spot after being informed.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sana Saminur Rahman of Dhaka industrial police 1 (Ashulia zone) said they are trying to bring the situation under control.

"Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid any unwarranted incident," the police official added.
