UP chairman held with 229 sacks of relief rice

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested a Union Parishad (UP) chairman with 229 sacks of relief rice at Bera upazila in Pabna.

The arrestee is Korban Ali Sardar, 60, resident of Komorpur and chairman of Dhalarchar Union Parishad of the upazila. He is also the president of union unit Awami League.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive and arrested the UP chairman while he was storing relief rice at his godown instead of distributing among the poor, said Aminul Kabir Tarafdar, company commander of Rab-12.

Later, they recovered the 229 sacks of relief rice.
