‘Criminal’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A criminal accused in 12 cases has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Jashore.

The gunfight took place in SarapoleKolabagan area of JashoreSadarupazila on Monday midnight.

The deceased was identified as BabuHossain, 40.

Sheikh TasmimAlam, officer-in-charge of JashoreKotwali Police Station, said acting on tip off that a group of criminals are staying in SarapoleKolabagan area and a team of police conducted a drive in the area.

As soon as policemen arrived there, the criminals opened fire at police, forcing them to fire back in self-defense that triggered the gunfight, leaving Babu and two cops injured, he added.

The OC said Babu was taken to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead while two injured policemen were admitted to the hospital.

Police recovered a shooter gun, 200 Yaba pills and 54 bottles of phensedyl from the spot.
