A housewife, who tested positive for coronavirus, gave birth to a baby girl in a hospital in Jashore sadar upazila on Wednesday.
Dr Nilufar Yasmin of Jashore 250-bed General Hospital operated the cesarean delivery and the 28-years-old Covid-19 patient gave birth to her second child.
Senior officials of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) were present at that time.
Dr Nilufar Yasmin said “They had to take special preparation to operate as there were risks. But there was no alternative but to operate as it’s our duty.”
“The mother and child both are in sound condition now,” she added.
The woman hailed from Banurhuda village under Chaugachha upazila was found infected and kept in home isolation since April 25.
Later, she recovered from the virus on May 9, but after taking her to Jashore General Hospital for delivery, her COVID-19 symptoms reappeared and her samples were collected again for test.
The test reports confirmed her re-infected of the virus on Monday although her husband and eight years old elder daughter were found negative for the virus.
