Rohingya robber killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected Rohingya robber has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox’s Bazar district.

The gunfight took place in Damdamiya Shipyard Ghat hilly area under Teknaf upazila of the upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rashid Ullah, 28, son of Shafiq Ullah at Leda Rohingya Camp of the upazila.

Wing Commander of RAB-15 Azim Ahmed confirmed the news.

Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area while a group of robbers gathered for robbery. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to back fire in self defence that triggered a gunfight, he said.

After the gunfight, the police rescued Rashid Ullah with bullet injuries and sent to the Teknaf Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead, he also said.

RAB members also recovered two locally made LG and five rounds of bullets from the spot, he added.
