Ex-Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowdhury arrested

Police arrested former Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury in connection with the Hefazat mayhem in Hathazari of Chattogram over the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March.

The Jamaat leader was arrested from his residence at Samdarpara of Satkania municipality on the night of Friday (May 14) over the Hefajat-e-islam mayhem that took place at Hathazari on March 26 and 27.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Satkania police station, confirmed the Jamaat leader’s arrest.

Shahjahan Chowdhury’s involvement in the Hefazat mayhem in Hathazari of Chattogram has been found. A process is underway to take legal action against him, police said.
