Nine killed in lightning strikes, 6 hurt

At least nine people have been killed and six others injured in separate lightning strikes in Netrokona, Manikganj and Sunamganj.
The incidents took place from noon to afternoon Tuesday (May 18).
Netrokona Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdur Rahman, Manikganj ward 7 councillor Md Kabir Hossain and Sunamganj’s Duarabazar Police Station OC Nazir Alam confirmed the matter.
The deceased in Netrokona were known as Hafiz Md Sharif, 18, son of late Abdul Quadir of Fatepur village under Madan upazila, Hafiz Robin, 17, son of Musa Mia of the same area, Osef Mia, 65, resident of Jagannathpur village under Khaliazuri upazila, Bipul Mia, 32, of the same village, an unkown of Batuail village, Fazlu Mia, 55, son of late Taiyab Ali of Kunduli village under Kendua upazila, Bachchu Khan, 45, son of Ahsan Khan of Bairati village under Paikura union parishad.
Netrokona DC Abdur Rahman said, “I heard that seven people were killed in lightning strikes. Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of the concerned upazilas have been instructed to pay 10,000 to each of the families.”
In Manikganj, a farmer named Azmot Ali was killed in lightning strike.
Besides, a youth Taher Uddin, 35, was also killed in thunder strike in Duarabazar of Sunamganj.
