PCR machine out of order in Gazipur

A PCR machine of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur has become out of order for eight days.

As a result, the Covid testing facility at the hospital has remained out of commission. As samples are being sent to Dhaka, patients are receiving their test reports after more than two days.

The hospital authorities say the laminar flow machine in the bio septic cabinet of the Covid-19 PCR lab has been out of order. They have also sent a letter to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), seeking a new PCR machine but DGHS informed that it is not possible to give a new machine before August.

Principal of the medical college Abdul Kader also said the laminar flow machine in the bioseptic cabinet had been having problems for several days. The matter has also been reported to the office of the director general of DGHS.

Gazipur Civil Surgeon Khairuzzaman says around 450 samples are collected in Gazipur every day. Now samples are being sent to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital and the IPH Lab in Dhaka.
