Hili OC stands by that Amena Begum following risingbd report

Amena Begum, a 90-year-old woman from Hili upazila in Dinajpur, left her home due to the inhuman torture by her grandson and losing of her last assets. Being helpless, she was resorting to the Upazila Chairman and UNO in the hope of getting justice.

Ferdous Wahid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hakimpur (Hili) police station in Dinajpur, stood by that old woman after seeing a news report about her helplessness in risingbd.com, one of the leading and popular online news portals in the country.

Amena Begum and her torturing grandson were produced in the police station on Wednesday (August 11) morning at the direction of the OC.

OC Ferdous Wahid said, “A news report published in risingbd came into my notice yesterday noon. After seeing the report, I immediately directed SI Mahmudunnabi to visit the house of that old woman located at Kushapara village in Alihat union of the upazila. I also ordered the SI to look into the matter and bring the woman’s grandson to the police station. This morning, Amena Begum and her grandson were brought to the police station.”

“Amena Begum was given in the custody of her grandson Shaha Alam after convincing him on various conditions as the woman has nobody except for her grandson,” OC said.

Shaha Alam told risingbd that: “I made a great mistake. I will never torture my grandmother and let her out of the house. I regret for my mistake.”

Sharing an instant reaction over the entire incident, the old woman said, “I am very happy and pray to Allah for the welfare of the police officer.”
