One shot dead in Moheshkhali polling centre

A man was shot dead and at least four others were injured when supporters of two chairman candidates locked into a clash at a polling centre in Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday (September 20) morning.

The deceased was identified as Abu Kalam, 40, son of Choto Mia from Qutubjom union of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshkhali Police Station Md Abdul Hai confirmed this to risingbd around 11am.

Quoting locals, the OC said the incident took place between the supporters of Awami League candidate Sheikh Kamal and rebel candidate Mosharraf Hossain Khokon at Jamiatusunnah Darul Uloom Dakhil Madrasa Centre in Moheshkhali’s Qutubjom union.

Abu Kalam died on the spot and the injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital in critical condition, the police official said.
