Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) vice-chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed has apologized to the teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University for his ‘unintentional’ remarks on JU female students.

Professor Farid called JU vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam over phone at about 12:00pm on Monday and said ‘sorry’ for his comment, said a press release issued by JU public relations office.

According to the release, Professor Farid claimed that his speech was ‘edited’ and spread through social media.

“I have realised that the sentiment of Jahangirnagar University’s teachers and students were attacked by the edited speech,” said Professor Farid.

“I hope that teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University will forgive me,” Professor Farid said, according to the release.

In an audio clip that went viral on social media, the VC said that no one wants to marry the female students of JU.

Later, JU students launched a series of protest programmes on their campus demanding withdrawal of Professor Farid’s comment and an unconditional apology from him.
