Surma River flowing above danger level

Due to heavy rains and onrush of hilly water, rivers in Sunamganj have continued to rise, which have inundated low-lying areas of the district, rendering thousands of people trapped in water.
The Surma River was flowing 35cm above the danger level on Tuesday morning (May 17) which is feared to increase more.
Executive Engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board (WDB) Md Samsuddoha confirmed the news.
Road communications of four upazilas have been interrupted as some roads have gone under water.
The executive engineer said the Surma River was flowing 35cm above the danger level in Sunamganj point at 9am on Tuesday. The situation has been created in Sunamganj due to heavy rain in Meghalaya and Cherapujni of India.
