BNP’s dawn-to-dusk hartal underway in Bhola

The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Bhola district protesting the death of a Chhatra Dal leader who sustained bullet injuries during a clash between police and BNP men there is underway.

After visiting different spots in the district, it was noticed that leaders and activists of BNP were holding processions in support of the hartal. Shops remained closed. No vehicles except rickshaw and auto-rickshaw were moving. Additional police were deployed in the district.

Earlier on Wednesday (August 03) afternoon, District BNP President Golam Nabi Alamgir and General Secretary Harunur Rashid Truman announced the hartal programme after a demonstration procession in front of the party office in Kalinath Bazar area.

Nure Alam, president of district unit JCD, died after being injured in the clash at a hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Humayun Kabir Swapan, joint general secretary of district unit BNP, said Nure Alam suffered bullet wounds during a clash with police on Sunday.
