Padma Bridge impact: Number of flights fall on Jashore route

Air passengers from Dhaka to Jashore and Barishal have dropped significantly as many southbound travellers are preferring to travel by road following the Padma Bridge.

As a result, the civil aviation is facing trouble. Already two airlines halted their seven flights in the route.

Sources said, there were 15 flights of three airlines in the route. The airlines are – Bangladesh Airlines, US Bangla and Novo Air. The Jessore airport was full of passengers. Ultimately, the demand of air ticket was high. But time has changed now.

After the inauguration of Padma Bridge on June 25, the overall communication with southern part has changed drastically. Around 70 percent people of Khulna and Satkhira are choosing Padma Bridge to go Dhaka skipping air route.

To attract the passengers in the route, airlines are providing various kinds of offer on air fare. Novoair's airfare on the Jashore route now costs around Tk 3,199, as compared to the previous fare of Tk 4,500. Besides, US Bangla today decided to lower their fare in the route.
