5 to walk gallows for gang rape in Khulna

A court here sentenced five people to death in a case of gang-rape with a teenage girl on March 23 in 2011 in Khulna.

The Judge of Khulna Women and Child Oppression Control Tribunal Abdus Salam Khan passed the order on Wednesday (September 7).

The court also fined the convicts Taka 20,000 each.

The convicts are – Ali Akbar alias Ridoy, Mehedi Hasan alias Ibu Shohel, Abdullah and Mohon.

Farid Ahmed, special public prosecutor of the country confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, a 14-year-old girl went near a tube well of Bihari camp no-1 under Khalishpur Police Station in the city to wash her face around 7:30pm on March 23 in 2011.

Meanwhile, Mohon, a neighbor of the victim, took her near a Shia Mosque out of the camp. Later, Ali Akbor abducted her from there on a motorcycle and the gang of criminals raped her in turn there.
