Indefinite transport strike in Sylhet, commuters facing sufferings

Transport workers in Sylhet have gone on an indefinite strike from Tuesday morning to press home their five demands, causing immense sufferings to commuters.
No bus, microbus or other vehicle left the Kadamtali Central Bus Terminal and Kumargaon Bus Stand on Tuesday morning. As a result, common people, specially the office-goers, are facing huge sufferings.
Sylhet District Road Transport Workers Coordinating Council President and Sylhet District Bus Minibus Coach Microbus Workers Union President Moinul Islam made the announcement on Sunday.
He said the decision was taken at the meeting of Sylhet District Road Transport Workers Coordinating Council consisting of six registered organizations of Sylhet.
The five demands include stopping excessive fines including harassment by traffic police, withdrawal of Nazmul Alam Romen, the representative of the Labour Court in Sylhet, reopening of stone quarries as per High Court directivess and stopping sale of new CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and giving registration of the vehicles sold.
