Man gets 7 years in jail for hurting religious sentiment

A tribunal in Rajshahi has sentenced a man to seven-year imprisonment in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for allegedly hurting religious sentiment through a status posted from his Facebook account involving an objectionable photo of edited holy house of Kaaba in February 2017.

The convict is Sujon Mohont, 37, a resident of Panchbibi Poshchim Balighata village in Joypurhat district.

The tribunal also fined him Tk one lakh, in default of which he will have to serve three months more in jail.

Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman handed down the verdict on Thursday (November 10).
