Narsingdi Freedom Day today

Narsingdi was liberated from the occupation of Pakistan Army by the freedom fighters on December 12 in 1971.
The district administration and Narsingdi Freedom Fighters Association and different political parties have chalked out programmes to celebrate the day.
Narsingdi, 55 kilometers away from capital Dhaka, played a glorious role in the historic Language Movement, Anti-Ayub Movement and the Liberation War.
On this day in 1971, freedom fighters along with general public attacked Pakistan Army and freed Narsingdi from Pakistani occupation.
A total of 116 heroic sons were martyred at different places in the district during the decisive fight against Pakistan occupation forces in the district.
The day (December12) is considered as the most significant and remarkable day for the inhabitants of the district.
The people of Narsingdi started taking preparation for resisting the Pakistani Army by setting 20 training camps, participated by hundreds of youths and students. The freedom struggle in Narsingdi was under Sector 2, led by Major Generel (rtd) Shafiullah.
On April 6, Pakistan Air Force dropped bombs killing about 12 persons and burning down hundreds of rice and jute warehouses and shops.
