Awami League has withdrawn the suspension ban imposed on Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam on the condition that he will not engage in any anti-organizational activities and break discipline in the future.
This was confirmed in a letter, signed by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday evening.
Jahangir Alam lost his Awami League post for controversial remarks on Bangabandhu and martyrs of Liberation War.
On November 19, 2021, the ruling Awami League expelled Jahangir Alam from his position in the party after videos of Jahangir making derogatory comments on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyred freedom fighters of the Liberation War at a programme went viral on social media.
Later on November 25, the local government ministry suspended Jahangir as the Gazipur City Corporation mayor over various allegations.
