Dense fog halts ferry service on Paturia-Daulatdia route

Authorities have suspended ferry service on Paturia-Daulatdia route to avoid accidents as the ferry’s marking lights became dim in the thick fog.

The ferry service was suspended from 11:15 pm on Sunday (January 29).

Khorshed Alam, office assistant manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Daulatdia point, confirmed the matter.

The dense fog started falling in the river area. Later, the light of the ferry marking lamp became dim in the thick fog. For this reason, the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was temporarily suspended around 11:15 pm to avoid accidents on the route, Khorshed Alam said.

Ferries were anchored with vehicles at both ends of the river, he said.

Ferry service on the river route will resume after the reduction of thick fog, he added.
