Mother appeals to UNO to keep her son confined in jail

Being fed up with the torture of a drug-addicted son, a mother in Phulchhari of Gaibandha has submitted a written request to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to confine her son in jail.

The mother on Monday (January 30) appeared in person at the Phulchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office and submitted a written application in this regard.

The victim was known as Aleton Begum. She is wife of Abdul Mannan Mia of West Udakhali village of Udakhali union of the upazila.

Aleton Begum said, “I worked in a brickyard in Dhaka and educated my son Al Amin, 22, up to SSC. I also married him off to a good and beautiful girl. But Al Amin can’t live without drugs. His wife left him as he beat her after taking hemp. The wife was divorced after taking a loan.”

She also said, “Once, Al Amin used to say prayers five times a day. My 70-year-old husband still works as day labourer to give him money. Al Amin beats us if we fail to pay for the drug. We are fed up with his torture. So I want to send him to jail to amend him. We do not have any other option.”

Phulchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Anisur Rahman said, “This kind of incident is very sad. The matter has been reported to the District Narcotics Control Office. Subject to the investigation, they will take necessary measures in this regard.”
