Student stabbed for ‘Haha’ react on Facebook

A student was stabbed after giving a ‘Haha’ react to a classmate’s Facebook status. 

The incident took place at Rajshahi College ground on Wednesday (February 1).

The injured student was known as Tihan (21), a second year student of Marketing Department of Rajshahi College. He has been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Tarek Hossain, a classmate of the injured student, said Tihan was sunbathing in the field at the noon after the class. At that time, some young men suddenly came and stabbed Tihan and ran away. Later, he was admitted to the emergency department of the hospital with serious injuries.

Injured Tihan said one of his female friends had posted a group photo of an event on Facebook. He gave ‘Haha’ react to that. Kibria, another classmate, got angry for that reaction. On Tuesday night, he called and threatened Tihan, ‘Come to the campus tomorrow (Wednesday) and will get understand.’ Then Kibaria brought some associates with him around noon. One of them stabbed Kibria and fled.

Principal of Rajshahi College Abdul Khalek said he initially came to know that this incident happened based on a status on Facebook. And the boy who stabbed is also a student of the same department of this college. His name is Kibria. They are currently investigating the incident. They will take necessary action in this regard. Besides, police have also been asked to take legal action, said the principal.

Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia police station of the city said that they received information that the incident happened between two friends. The attack was carried out over a trivial matter. The injured college student is undergoing treatment at RMCH. Besides this, efforts are being made to identify the student and his accomplices who openly attacked Tihan. Necessary legal action will be taken in this regard.
