Imam beaten as he sermons bad effects of drugs, AL leader arrested

There have been allegations of beating an Imam of a mosque and filming naked video for giving sermon over bad effects of drugs during Juma prayer at Chandra area of Gachha police station under Gazipur City Corporation.

The victim filed a case with Gachha police station. Later, police arrested former Gachha union Awami League joint secretary Mashiur Rahman Mukul, one of the accused in the case.

However, the main accused in the case, Mofizur Rahman Tutul, an identified drug trader and younger brother of Mukul, is on the run.

Earlier, the incident took place at Ward No. 37 of Gachha Police Station on January 26. However, the victim Imam did not open his mouth from fear of public shame. But when the matter spread to the public, sparked a discussion at all levels, including the Imam society. The incident caused intense anger in the community.

According to the case statement, the drug traders extorted Tk 50,000 under the threat of spreading the nude video of Imam on social media.

The plaintiff in the case said on January 26, before Friday prayers, local drug traders led by Mofizur Rahman Tutul, the local drug dealer, entered the room of Imam on mosque premises with lethal weapons and attacked him. At that time, he was beaten and filmed nude video of him

Later, the drug traders extorted Tk 50,000 by threatening to release the naked video of Imam on social media. I have been beaten up for talking about the drug trade and traders in the area.

After that incident, as they threatened me fear again, I informed the local clerics and on the advice of them filed a case with Gachha police station last Friday.

Ibrahim Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gachfa Police Station of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said, “The Imam of the mosque filed a case against two persons. Later, a raid was conducted and a person involved in the incident was arrested. Attempts are being made to arrest the absconding accused.”
