Border road project: A drastic change being made in hill tracks

Once upon a time, Chittagong Hill Tracts was called a backward region due to inaccessibility in the area, but a new era has begun during the tenure of the incumbent government.

An unprecedented improvement has taken place in education, health, road communications there. The incumbent government started the construction of border roads in 2019 to change the scenario of Chittagong Hill Tracts.

People are now dreaming in a new way centering the border road. The border road will play an important role in education, health, security, information technology, expansion of the tourism industry, and a major change in the quality of life.

16, 20 and 26 ad hoc Engineer Construction Battalions under the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Army Corps of Engineers are handling the construction of the border road.

The total length of the border road is 1036 kilometers. In the first phase of the project, 95 kilometers of road construction work has been completed already. Another 132 km of road construction work of the project is going on.

Suman Chakma, a resident of Mitingachhari area of Rajasthali upazila, said Before the border road, if someone fell ill, it was very difficult to take the patient to the hospital from here. Currently we can take patients to Rajasthani Sadar Hospital within two hours.
