About 40,000 liters of diesel fuel spilled on land as three tank wagons derailed at Chattogram Goods Port Yard (CGPY) in Halishahar area on Wednesday (February 15) evening. Environmental pollution is feared by spilling the fuel into the nearby canal.
The wagon derailed while entering the yard after loading oil from the depot, Yard Master Abdul Malek confirmed.
According to Railway Goods Port Yard, the tank wagons were entering CGPY after filling with diesel from the depot. At that time, the incident took place. At least 40,000 liters of diesel fuel spilled from wagons after the incident.
Measures are being taken to prevent entering the spilled fuel into nearby canal through various drains, Yard authorities said.
