Woman beaten with broomstick to death by daughter-in-law

A woman was allegedly beaten with broomstick to death by her daughter-in-law (wife of son) at Atgharia in Pabna.

The incident took place at Dakshin Haranpara village of the upazila.

The deceased was known as Marjina Khatun, 55, wife of Hasibur Rahman of the village.

According to police and relatives, Marjina and her daughter-in-law Khushi Khatun locked to into an altercation over tying goats on Thursday (February 16) afternoon. At one point, Khushi hit her mother-in-law on the head with a broomstick in her hand, leaving her injured.

Relatives and neighbors rescued her and whisked off her to Atgharia Upazila Health Complex. As her physical condition deteriorated, doctors on duty referred her to Pabna General Hospital.

Later, she died on the way to Enayetpur Hospital in Sirajganj as her physical condition deteriorated further on Sunday (February 19) morning. Daughter-in-law Khushi has been on the run since her mother-in-law’s death.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atgharia police station Anwar Hossain said, “Due to family feud, this family has been having trouble for long days. Marjina Begum died while undergoing treatment. Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy. No case has yet been filed over the incident.
