50 injured Panchagarh clash, BGB deployed

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in Panchagarh to bring unstable situation under control in the district on Friday (March 3).

Earlier, a chase and counter-chase were taken place between agitated people and police when they brought out a protest rally, leaving at least 50 people injured.

The incident took place at Chowrangi intersection of the district town around 2:00 pm. Later, policemen, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and BGB personnel were deployed.

Local said that after Friday prayers, local people gathered in the area and demanded immediate step to stop of three-day-long Salana Jalsa. At one stage, the clash broke out between police and certain religious elements in the district. Meanwhile, the law enforcer fired tear-shells and rubber bullets to disperse the clash.

The mobs took out the products of four shops in the city area and set them on fire. Apart from this, they torched vehicles of BGB and traffic police and at least 20 houses in Ahmadnagar.

BGB headquarters said a total of 17 platoon BGB personnel were deployed in Panchagarh city to bring the situation under control.
