4 held for cutting off Islamic speaker`s tongue

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four people for allegedly cutting off the tongue of an Islamic speaker in Brahmanbaria.

The arrestees are – Jakir Hossain alias Jakku, 48, Mahbubul Al alias Shimul, 33, Md Sumon, 35, and Amirul Islam, 20.

In a press conference, RAB-9 officials briefed reporters in this regard on Wednesday noon (March 8).

Earlier on Monday midnight, police arrested another suspected man named Shahinur Islam, 35, from Singairbil of Bijaynagar upazila for his involvement in the case.

On Saturday, Maulana Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, 38, lecturer in the Arabic department of Sreepur Islamia Fazil Madrasa, participated in the mahfil in Daulatbari area of Bijoynagar. On the way home on a motorcycle, some unknown youths stopped his motorcycle and attacked him in Azampur railway station area of Akhaura upazila.
