N’ganj food godown blast leaves one dead

One person was killed and six others were injured as a terrible fire broke out following an explosion at a food warehouse in Nitaiganj of Narayanganj.

The fire originated around 9:30 am on Saturday (March 18).

The deceased was identified as Awlad Hossain, 50, and the injured are Robi Datta, 40, Md Hossain, 50, Hazrat Ali, 48, Zakir Hossain, 41, Billal Hossain, 45 and Jogodish Sarker, 65.

Fakhruddin, deputy director at Narayanganj Fire Service Station, said that five firefighting units were sent to the spot after receiving information about the fire in the morning. Later they tried to bring the fire under control after about an hour. In this incident, one person was killed and six others were injured.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said that the explosion occurred at an old building in Narayanganj, leaving one person dead and six others injured.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not known initially.
