Businessman hacked to death in Kaliakoir

A businessman has allegedly been hacked to death at broad day light by rivals after he was called from his house for talking about soil filling at Kaliakor of Gazipur.
The incident took place at Araiganj market of the upazila on Friday (March 24) afternoon.
On Saturday (March 25) morning, deceased’s wife filed a case with Kaliakoir police station in this connection.
The deceased was known as Mizanur Rahman (27), son of Waz Uddin of Tekibari Chanpur area of Kaliakoir upazila. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has alleged that the attackers are trying to cover up the incident by calling it a ‘mass beating’ on Facebook.
According to police and the deceased’s family sources, Mizanur Rahman, a soil trader of Tekibari Chanpur area of the upazila, was informed on the phone on Friday afternoon that a place will be filled with soil. After receiving that phone call, Nurul Islam, a resident of Talaboho village, called him from home. Later, when he went to Araiganj market, some 15-16 people including Anwar Hossain started beating him. At one point, when he became unconscious, locals and relatives rescued him and took him to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where duty doctor declared him dead.
Antara Begum, wife of the deceased said, “My husband was at home. At that time, Nurul Islam came and said that a land would be filled with soil. After that, he took him to the market and whether they beat him together.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliakoir police station Akbar Ali Khan said, “A murder case has been filed in this connection. Drive is underway to arrest the accused.”
