A catfish has been found in a pond in Kaljharpar village under Cumilla Sadar upazila.
Fishermen were surprised to spot it in a pond owned by one Shafiqul Islam on Friday (March 25).
Curious villagers gathered at Saiful’s house to see the fish. Later, local youths came to know that it was a sucker fish.
Cumilla district fisheries officer Sharif Uddin said the government has banned the farming of sucker fish. It is also known as sucker mouth catfish. It is exotic to Bangladesh and harmful to other fish because of its carnivorous nature.
