Rangpur City Councillor Shiplu temporarily suspended

Zakaria Alam Shiplu, the councillor of ward No 15 of Rangpur City Corporation has been temporarily suspended from his post by the local government division.

A notification issued in this regard by the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Tuesday (May 16). Local Government Division Deputy Secretary Mohammad Zahirul Islam signed the notification.

According to the notification, the judgment in a case against Councillor Shiplu was given by the Rangpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on February 20 this year. The court found Shiplu guilty and sentenced him to one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 10,000. At the same time, he was sentenced to three months. Shiplu was suspended as a councillor under section 12 sub-section (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009.

The order issued in public interest has been asked to be implemented immediately, the notification said.
