Actor Farooque laid to rest

Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooque, was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Gazipur on Tuesday night (May 16).
He was buried at 9:30pm at Tumulia union of Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur after namaz-e-janaza at Somtiori central Jame masque in the upazila. He was buried beside the grave of his father Azgar Hossain Pathan.
Earlier he was taken to his native village around 7:30pm.
The body of actor Farooque, one of the most popular heroes of Bengali cinema, freedom fighter and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-17 Constituency, reached Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
A special US-Bangla flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 7:50am.
Farroque breathed his last at around 10am on Monday while undergoing treatment at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He had been receiving treatment at the hospital for the last two years.
Farooque rose to fame on the big screen through “Jolchhobi”, directed by H Akbar. His acting prowess eventually earned him the National Film Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in 1975. Later, in 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
