GCC polls: Three mayoral candidates hope for win

Ruling Awami League candidate Azmat Ullah and two independent candidates Zaida Khatun and Shahnur Islam Roni have expressed their hope for winning in Gazipur City Corporation polls.
After casting his vote, Azmat Ullah said, participatory, fair and impartial elections are being held. The people’s interest shows that the people will vote for the boat symbol.
Zayeda Khatun, also the mother of former GCC mayor Jahangir Alam, casted her vote along with her son at Kanaya Govt Primary School centre in Gazipur around 10am.
She said, “Agents are performing their duties properly in the voting centres so far. I have no complaint over EVMs. Election environment is good.” She also hoped for win in the polls.
The voting is being held using the electronic voting machine (EVM) at 480 polling centers under the GCC area.
The GCC, constituted with a total of 57 wards, has some 11,794,76 voters. Of them, 5,92,762 are male voters, 5,86,696 are female voters and the rest 18 are hijras.
