Gazipur Mayoral Election: Independent candidate Zayeda wins

Zayeda Khatun, the mother of expelled ruling party leader Zahangir Alam, has won the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections.
The independent mayoral aspirant Zayeda secured 238,934 votes with ‘table clock’ symbol in 480 centres.
Besides, her nearest rival Awami League-backed candidate Azmat Ullah Khan bagged 222,737 votes with 'boat' symbol.
The returning officer of the elections Md Faridul Islam confirmed the result around 01:30 am on Friday (May 26).
Earlier, the voting started at 8:00 am using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) on Thursday (May 25) and ended at 4:00 pm.
The GCC, constituted with a total of 57 wards, has some 11,794,76 voters. Of them, 5,92,762 are male voters, 5,86,696 are female voters and the rest 18 are hijras.
