Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said, “Our aim is that the upcoming Khulna City Corporation elections should be free and impartial. In any major election, the district and police administration along with other law enforcement agencies have to perform their duties. There is a democratic system of governance in our country. The local government institutions of the country are governed by elected representatives.”

He said this while addressing a discussion on law and order issues with election officials, executive magistrates and members of the law and order enforcement agencies on the occasion of the Khulna City Corporation elections on Tuesday (May 30) afternoon. The meeting was held at Khulna District Commissioner’s conference room.

Habibul Awal said, “Elections are very important. Government is formed through elections, be it local government or national government. Local government has to be elected to uphold the constitution. If the opinion of the people is reflected in the elections and if the voters can freely, impartially and independently exercise their right to vote, that will be a real election.”
