Explosion in ship on Shitalakshya dockyard, 6 workers burnt

At least six workers have been burnt as an explosion occurred in ship anchored for repairing on the dockyard of Shitalakshya River at Isapara area under Rupganj in Narayanganj.

The incident took place around 2:00 am on Sunday (June 4). Being informed, three units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and managed to douse the blaze around 4:42 am, after an effort of more than two hours.

The burn victims were known as Humayun Kabir, 54, Rakib, 24, Imtiaz, 42, Rubel, Sohel and Emon.

Osman Gani, Station Officer of Demra Fire Service, confimed the matter.

He said, “Sangaile 8 carrying oil refining napkins anchored on dockyard of Kingfisher Shipyard at Isapura area in Shitalakshya River. An explosive occurred from the gas accumulated in the river, causing fire and leaving six workers burnt.”
